On Saturday night, the Illini trailed the Arizona Wildcats 75 - 60 with 4:00 remaining in the game. The instanity that ensued will likely have a permanent place on my TiVo and is something I will not soon forget.
Illinois staged a comeback to take the game back. They cut it to 75 - 63, then fell back to 77 - 63. Then they made it 77 - 66, then 77 - 68, and then 77 - 70. Arizona hit one of two free throws to make it 78 - 70. The teams traded baskets to make it 80 - 72. Then Luther Head a huge three pointer to make it 80 - 75. Dee Brown got a steal and made it 80 - 77. Kack Ingram stole and inbounds pass, and threw it to Deron Williams, who made it 80 - 80. The game went to overtime, where the Illini eventually won.
I've watched these 4 minutes on TiVo about 5 times in the past two days and I'm still in shock. My only great NCAA tournament memory before this is the famous Christian Laettner shot against Kentucky. But this game is right up there ... My grandkids will be hearing about this one.
After the game Darren and I headed to White Horse with Bergan. Some drunk guy asked Bergan's brother for his ID and he gave the drunk his ID. As time passed, the drunk guy was being a jerk and wouldn't return the ID. I saw something going on and I walked over only to be questioned for my ID. The drunk was claiming to be a cop. He continued to annoy us and then pulled out the ID and commented "Man you are ugly." Then he looked at me and said "Wow, so are you." I simply commented, "Your mom didn't think so last night." Thats when he grabbed me by the shirt and tried to throw me on the bar. I put up my hands and dared him to hit me. The bartender saw this and kicked out our good friend. And little Bergan got his ID back.
Plus Darren and I beat the highest score on the Video Poker Machine's trivia game.
Then we left to go greet the basketball team at the practive facility. In our grand golf weekend, we never got around to playing golf ... go figure.
